ISA NorCal Board Meeting Minutes

Meeting held at ACS in Richmond, CA and called to order at 5:47 pm. PDT.

 Financial Report

ISA Norcal’s finances are in good shape. Terry is working to keep books current so next year’s taxes will be easier and faster. Nand will assist Terry in signing checks.

Training Courses

Discussed a Norcal –sponsored quality technical conference at CMA in June 2004 with tabletops. 2-day conference - 6 classrooms available for presentations; 40 people per classroom.  Outdoor BBQ pit and whole campus available.  Charge vendors with a discount if vendor presents non-commercial technical presentation.

CSE PE Review Classes

Terry to get CSE PE review class ad in April Transmitter.  Classes to start end of august for 6 sessions in preparation  for exam last week in October.

Stephan has sent Terry 9 sample modules. Passed around to the tentative instructors – Terry, Nand and maybe Bob Webb. Stephan has new ISA study guide for PE that he will share. 

CLCPE

Terry sent check to John Quierdo for the Norcal’s share of the CLCPE annual dues.

CCST Review Classes

15 people attended first CCST review class– several from Sacramento. First Saturday of 3 and then exam is March 29th with 8 or 9 are taking final exam. Bob H. has been asked for additional course in July at CMA. Signed 6 new members at first CCST review class.

Should we ask for copyright for ISANORCAL content? Terry to resolve any copyright issues with HQ.

PLC Course

PLC course tentatively set for May 24. Limited to 10 people with Bob Hammaker as instructor. Terry to get description of class for inclusion in April Transmitter.

2002-2003 Programs

March 25, 2003  – Joint meeting with San Francisco State University student section and a digital photography program from Terry on his Panama Canal tour. Dinner will be from SFSU at $20 members and $10 for students. RMC to do wine and cheese for 15 people. Any student will get free dinner if they sign up for ISA at this meeting.

April 22, 2003 – Tour of Herguth Labs in Vallejo, an Oil Analysis facility that does studies on greases – www.herguth.com.  Bob H. to write something up on Mr. Herguth. Local restaurants for the “on-your-own” dinner are Nantucket & Dead Fish both in Crockett.

May 21, 2003  - Panel discussion on Fieldbus. Jim Noel has gathered panel of Tim Rose, CICT, GE and  Fisher Rosemount. Herb has reserved using Hotel Mac. Terry to send Hotel Mac a check for the room. 

June 21, 2003  - Chocolate factory tour at Scharffenberger  to combine with Past Presidents’ Day. Herb to send check to put $30 money down for tour.  Pacific Ale House on Gilman may be a good choice for dinner afterwards.

September 10, 2003 - Tony has reserved Franklin Canyon course for the annual ISA Norcal Golf Tournament.

Roster’s and Buyer’ Guide

Brad Rupert had committee meeting and needs company to manage database for ISA.  Goal is to get a program that the guide and web that can be easily updated instead of starting from scratch every time. Will draft scope of work that a programmer can bid on. Spec together by next month then finalize a budget for approval by board.

Brad owes Glen data on what we are getting from vendors. Glen working on how to get users list easier to use.

 Instead of advertising, kicking around a “sponsorship” from the vendors may get better response. Brad also working together to put together a Package for existing advertisers. Sponsorship may be better for our taxes instead of just paid ads.

 Honors and Awards and Nominations

Tony has the forms on the awards that we can honor with a March 1st deadline for the nominations.

Golden Achievement Award – Norcal ISA has nominated Bob Webb and TerryMolloy  for this award.

Board has also nominated Terry Molloy as Society Secretary President -elect.

Glen Garfein has been voted in as District 11 Nominator.

The next Transmitter needs a list of nominees for ISA Norcal board for 2003-2004.

South Bay Planning Meetings

Three out of the 6 scheduled South Bay meetings have been held at the Palo Alto Community Center every 2nd Tuesday of the month.

Bob Webb gave thanks to the vendors for presentation on 3/22 on Smart Valve positioners. Section will continue rest of year on remaining 3 South Bay meetings -  Fieldbus/Profibus in April;  3-hour Internet session in May;  Wireless problems in June.

Website Update

Glen has secured domain names ISANORCAL.com and ISAguide.us for buyers guide for web info.

Glen has noted statistics on website of 100 new visits per week.

Officers form has been filed but nothing on name change yet.

Board Meetings Schedule

Board meetings will be held the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:00 pm.(social hour at 5:30 pm.) Board meeting locations TBD.

Secretary of State Form – every 2 years have to file a non-profit corporate status. Needs to fill out form.
