ISA NorCal Board Meeting Minutes

May 8, 2003

 Meeting held at Power Engineers in Pt. Richmond, CA and called to order at 6:00 pm. PDT.

 Guest Dave Donovan has volunteered for Secretary position of Norcal ISA 2003-2004. We welcome him to the board and are glad to have his help.

 Financial Report

 Taxes for 2003/2004 are not due until mid July when Terry plans to close the books and submit on time. 

 Discussed adding $3-10K to Norcal scholarship account for Robert Galley Scholarship to be awarded to a student who presents a paper at a major conference.  This is alternative to sending money to HQ and being matched.

 We need to update the members who can sign checks. Terry to get signature card updated for next year effective July 1.

 Board passed a motion for reimbursing board members for food (during approved travel) capped at $30 per diem per day with no receipts.  Members must have travel approved in advance with trip cost estimate (reimburse for hotel, airline, transportation to/from hotel).

 

Training Courses

 Norcal Tech 2004 -  May 12 & 13, 2004

 Classroom space at the California Maritime Academy has already been reserved. Board passed a motion to authorize Terry to sign the contract with CMA for the two classrooms. 

 Glen to e-mail a call for papers to ISANorcal members .

 Need to fill the following positions by end of May:

 Overall Conference Coordinator

2.  Exhibits, booths

3.  Facilities, parking

4.  Technical Papers committee

The board brainstormed on volunteers for the conference and came up with a list of potentials – including retired life members.

Should there be a Student Section Activity at the conference? If so, what would be interesting? robotics competition, etc… Ask student section for input and coordinate with liason.

 Discussed hiring professional for overall conference coordinator. 

 Conference already has 3 booth spaces reserved.  Need to be able to promote during golf tournament.

PLC Courses

 Bob Hammaker will teach a 2nd PLC class on June 7 limited to 10 students. Course filling up fast.

 

2002-2003 Programs

May 21, 2003  - Panel discussion on Fieldbus at Hotel Mac. Jim Noel to moderate and has gathered panel of ABB, Rockwell, CTI, GE and  Emerson. 

Glen to do a mass e-mailing to members reminding of the Fieldbus panel discussion.

June 21,2003  - Chocolate factory tour at 11:30 am. Saturday at Scharffenberger  to combine with Past Presidents’ Day. Lunch at Spengers . Each participant to get a 1$ to spend in gift store.

September 10, 2003 - Tony has reserved Franklin Canyon course for the annual ISA Norcal Golf Tournament.  Started advertising in May Transmitter.

October, 2003 -  Bayer, Chiron,Genentech,Anheuser Busch, NUMMI, Oakland Docks, Valero cogen gas turbine – many suggestions were made. Make sure the program does not interfere with ISA in Houston scheduled for Oct. 21-23, 2003.

 Roster’s and Buyer’ Guide

Brad owes Glen data on what we are getting from vendors. Glen working on how to get users list easier to use.

Brad has started the spreadsheet on the vendors. Will create a form so vendors can fill out. Will then use as budget for cost of guide plus money to develop the web-site.

Honors and Awards and Nominations

 NorCal board nomination candidates have been identified. Ballots are in the May Transmitter.

 Need someone to head up nominating committee head to apply for awards and nominations. Give us feedback on what’s available, discuss with board and go after awards. Dave Donovan has volunteered to do some research on the available awards.

South Bay Planning Meetings

 South Bay meetings have been held at the Palo Alto Community Center every 2nd Tuesday of the month.

Next seminar on May 13 on Basic Networking in Instrumentation. Wireless problems in June.

Website Update

 Glen has secured domain names ISANORCAL.com and ISA guide.us for buyers guide for web info. 

 Officers form has been filed but nothing on name change yet.

 ISA National & District Meetings

Terry and Glen attended the President’s meeting in Memphis, TN. Terry ran for president-elect and Glen was on the District Nominating committee. Opening leadership presentation was excellent.

District 11 Leadership conference to be held May 31 & June 1 in Phoenix, AZ. Terry and Jim Noel will be going.

Board Meetings Schedule

Board meetings will be held the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:00 pm.(social hour at 5:30 pm.) Board meeting locations TBD.

Secretary of State Form – every 2 years have to file a non-profit corporate status. Needs to fill out form.

Name change update for all official forms, nominations.

Changed next board dinner meeting to June 11, 2003 at Hotel Mac location.
