District 11 Vise President's Message
by Raj Adani
Birds are chirping, golden poppies are blooming, temperature
is warming…. to many people this means Spring is in the air.
But, to an ISA enthusiasts, this means that our Spring President’s
meeting is in the air. At-least twice a year, ISA holds President’s
meeting typically in conjunction with ISA Conference and Exhibits.
On April 27-28th, ISA is bringing Automation West Conference
and Exhibits at Long Beach Convention Center. This regional
conference is ISA’s premiere regional event. The registration
to the exhibits is free. One and Two day conference registration
is available. We expect over 100 exhibitors and over 100+
papers will be presented. There will be various training classes
offered during this event. We expect this regional event will
draw people from the West Coast – California, Oregon, Washington,
Arizona and Nevada. Because of the President’s meeting being
held at the same time, I expect this will also draw small
but prominent national and international crowd.
What to expect at the President’s meeting? I see President’s
meeting as a unique way to conduct business for this 40,000
member volunteer organization. The meeting lasts about 5 days
including weekends. It brings society leaders togather to
review and discuss society’s direction and adopt guiding policies
thorough numerous leader orientation sessions. Various task
forces and departments use this event to hold their meetings,
debate the business on hand and arrive upon conclusions prior
to adjourning. Before the end of the meetings, task forces
typically report their progress to the ISA executive board
in a formal environment. Many of these meetings are open to
the ISA members. I encourage you to attend some of these meetings.
It will give you an excellent flavor for how the ISA business
is conducted. You will be surprised to see how easy it is
for you to voice your opinions and suggestion and MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
The President’s meeting also gives you an opportunity to
network during social events. The ISA President’s dinner at
the Sky Room on Sunday, April 25th is the only event where
there is a charge of $45 (not bad for dinner and function
at the historic Breaker’s Hotel). There is no charge for attendance
to any other meetings. In past there has been networking opportunities
at the after hours Presidential Suite. For incoming leaders
and “ISA Curious”, the ISA’s full time staff from RTP
holds leadership training track There are various leadership
training opportunities including –Section Finance, Developing
the leader within you, Section leaders roundtable etc. Our
own, Mr. John Querido will champion the orientation session
for the first time attendees.
I encourage you to attend one or more sessions during this
meeting that is truly in our backyard.
