11th Annual NORCAL ISA Section Golf Tournament
Monday, September 8, 2008 Noon Rancho Solano Golf Course, Fairfield
Proceeds benefiting the Robert Galley & Bob Hammaker Scholarship Funds
The Golf committee has picked a date and time for this years golf tournament. Make sure to mark your calendars for Monday September 8th at Noon. The committee unanimously decided that we would have this year’s tournament at Rancho Solano GC. Everyone had such a great time at last years tournament and the staff treated us so well that it was an easy decision to get the tournament at Ranch Solano. We also decide to move the date back to the Monday after Labor Day. So get off your duff and let us know if you are interested in sponsoring a team in this year’s event!!
Here is some info on the course. Rancho Solano Golf Course is located in the city of Fairfield, about half way between San Francisco and Sacramento near the I-5 freeway corridor.
It is a full 18-hole, par 72, championship course. Yardage from the Men’s White tees is 6,210 with a slope of 122 and 69.7 course rating. It was first opened in 1990 and designed by Roger Thomas Baird. The greens and fairways are Bent Grass.
This course is very scenic as it winds up and along the rolling hills with luxury homes bordering some fairways. The course maintenance is excellent. The fairways are cut very short and provide good roll. The rough in many areas is tall fescue grass. Finding balls in fescue is difficult and hitting out of it for any kind of distance is almost impossible.
The greens are very large and the fairways are also generously wide. Good thing with the quality of golfers that so up. You know who you are :^) There are plenty of bunkers sprinkled liberally throughout the course. The sand is soft, medium-grained and “splashing” out is not difficult. The course being fairly young does not have a lot of trees with big, fully developed canopies.
Their electric golf carts are in first-class condition. They’re all clean, with clean, non-scratched Plexiglas windshields and run beautifully. They are equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art GPS system. These are much nicer than the typical GPS units that simply provide the yardage to the center of the green. These also show the relative position of your ball in relationship to the whole hole layout and includes distances to various features, including bunkers, barrancas, ravines, creeks, lakes/ponds, walls, trees, etc.
In order to make the tournament more fun we have decided to have a friendly competition between the sponsors this year. Each sponsor will be allowed to have a table and staff at their hole. A tee sign, advertising in Nor Cal transmitter newsletter, and at the tournament will be provided to each sponsor.
